Okavango: A desert wetland

Earlier this week, the Okavango Delta in Botswana became the 1,000th entry on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites. This delta is unusual as it does not flow into the sea – instead, it flows into a desert! The area supports a remarkable variety of wildlife, including several threatened large mammal species.
